The aim of this thesis paper is to understand the meaning of demolishment through the Dazai novels of “Ha”, “UdaijinSanetomo” and “Shayou,” and “Nngensikkaku.” First, “Ha” or the prowl between life and death, examines the mental state of suicidal persons and victims. Next, “UdaijinSanetomo” is the expression of political approval of the Emperor of Japan and the disapproval of the militia. Following that is the story behind “Shayou,” where a mother and son, Naoji, died with disappointment in the postwar society. However, the daughter, Kazuko, survived. Kazuko and her child represented hope in the new society. Lastly, in “Ningensikkauku,”through imitation of Van Gogh’s artistic style, the main character seeks to complete the image of a “suffering artist.” After studying these four novels, we are exposed to demolishment in its many forms. However, another common link between these pieces of literature is the encouragement of holding on to hope, no matter the situation and circumstances, and to always believe. 林雪星 教授 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 129 |
