Therefore, learning the Japanese proverbs can understand Japanese culture and life. There are quite a few theses on Japanese proverbs such as “ the Comparison of Sino-Japanese sayings on cats and dogs “ , “ Sayings on Japanese flowers”, “A Research in comparison between Chinese and Japanese proverbs about 「Eye」,「Belly」and 「Heart」 “,“ Proverbs on seasons” , etc . However, it’s rarely seen the relevant Buddhism essays. By observing Buddhism words or adages are often used in Japanese daily life. This study is to comprehend how much Buddhism influences the Japanese customs and habits. Make comparisons between the changes between the original proverb’s meanings and misunderstood ones and try to examine the differences between the Chinese and the Japanese synonyms. This study divided the collected Japanese Buddhist proverbs into 12 classifications. Content of this essay is divided into seven chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, which contains the research purposes, field and research methodologies. The second chapter is the earlier guidance and the definition of proverbs. The third chapter is to consolidate for Japanese Buddhist proverb results after classification. Chapter IV is Japanese inherent proverbs and post- Buddhism proverbs. Chapter V is the meanings of Japanese Buddhist proverbs being misunderstood. Chapter VI is the comparison between Chinese and Japanese Buddhist proverbs and discuss the interesting parts of Japanese Buddhist proverbs. The final chapter is a compilation of relevant focus of this study and describes the future research. This study is expected to contribute in Japanese Education.
