Companies in the industry need to retain talents to better utilize organizational resources and pass down know-how so as to increase competitiveness. It is therefore vital for the management level to understand their employees’ work motivation and adjust its leadership style accordingly. This study aims to understand the relations among leadership style, work motivation, and employee retention through a survey. Two hundred and eighty questionnaires were distributed to the employees of the researcher’s company. Two hundred and fourteen questionnaires were returned, and among them, 206 were valid (valid return rate was 73.57%). The results showed that leadership style was positively correlated to work motivation; work motivation was positively correlated to employee retention; leadership was positively correlated to employee retention; and there was a partly mediating effect of work motivation between leadership style and employee retention. This study provided suggestions for the management level of electronic components distributors and follow- up studies.
