Manual breast pump is a simple milking equipment with is advantage of pain on hands out of repetitive pressing operation. This study concludes possible root cause of pain and product design guideline through process of observation research and ergonomic application and experiments to distinguish fatigue by various postures of manual breast pump operation. Phase I study compares sense of fatigue by pressing the manual breast pump with 3 various postures: (A) right/left hand over right/left breast. (B) right/left hand over left/right breast. (C) Free wrist position. The result is as follows: (1) Taking position C achieves most pressing numbers, B goes the next and A is the least. (2) A position makes user least movement and angle adjustment on wrist and elbow. In addition, Dorsiflexion situation is the most critical. (3) C position eases pressure on the hand and improves efficiency significantly. Phase II study experiments and compares the sense of fatigue by various ways of pressing the handle shaft of manual breast pump: (A) Thumb pressing. (B) The other four fingers pressing. (C) 2 ways that combine A and B. The result is as follows, (1) A makes user tired easily and switch hands the most frequently, and is the slowest way. B and C are similar on making user feel tired. In terms of switching hand, C is better than B, while B is the fastest way. (2) When switching hands and C are both available during pressing for ease pressure on muscle, users prefer switching hands. (3) For easiest and ergonomic operation with efficiency, a good manual breast pump must be used in a free wrist position with possibility of switching hands on pressing. Based on the experiments it’s understood that all the available manual breast pumps are with ergonomic disadvantage like Dorsiflexion. This study attempts to achieve the manual breast pump model for Free Wrist Position at higher efficiency and best operation condition. Jeng-Neng Fan 范振能 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 82 zh-TW
