| Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣科技大學 === 資訊管理系 === 102 === Writing of English research papers is a big challenge to EFL (English as a Foreign Language) learners. The reason is that users always rely on their native languages, and they can't write native English sentences by the dictionary, as a result it will lead to "Chinglish". In addition, the words in research papers are more formal than general writings, and they are related to the research areas, so it is not easy to make use of these specific words. According to these reasons, writing of English research papers is more difficult than the writing general articles.
Most of English writing systems on the market only support the functionality of the grammar checking, but the help for the EFL learners is very limited. In this paper, we propose a computer-aided system for the writing of English research papers, and it can help Chinese users to write their papers more successfully. Moreover, in the writing process, our system can provide the suggestions of following words, example sentences, word-based translation and translation words to users. At the revision step, we provide the functionalities of the grammar and collocation revision. Therefore, the feature of our system is integrating many kinds of functionalities that can help graduated students to write their papers.
In the experiments, we compare our system with other systems and ask some students to perform the user study. The results show that our system can provide more following words to the users and the ranking of example sentences is better than another system. From the user study, we observe that users can get help from partial suggestions which our system provided, and make their writing process more fluent.
