During the Japanese Colonial period, “Yilan branch office of Monopoly Bureau ”was a major wine workshop which produced red cordial, and was also one of the important industries in Yilan. Currently, there are 12 buildings built in the Showa era, some of which have been listed as Historical Buildings. The aims of this study are to examine the origin of the private enterprise nationalization and the history of architecture of the Yilan branch office Monopoly Bureau in the Japanese Colonial period. In order to understand the historical stories, wine types, building characteristics, and changes of wine workshop formation, we utilize historical literatures and field surveys. This paper proposes how the configuration of the building is influenced by the brewing process, light rail laying position, and water and power usage. Our research can be used to assist on the future restorations of these historical buildings and developing Yilan wine workshop to a tourism wineries.
