Summary:碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 音樂學系 === 102 === Ravel is one of the most important French composers of the 20th century. His work contains elegance and the exquisite taste of French music, also the influence of the Spanish culture by his mother, and the style of impressionism and neo-classicism; nonetheless, he also uses the elements of jazz. With all this elements created the works that reveal the spirit of classism, the magic in harmony, also the irreplaceable tone quality. This research will be researching on Ravel’s life, his compositional style, and analysis of his composition. This research is divided into four sections. The first section is the motive of starting the research. The second section is about the life and background of Ravel, and comparing his composition to Debussy, who is also a very important French composer in 20th century. The third section is the description of the compositional idea of the Valses nobles et sentimentales and the story of Adélaïde, Ou Le Langage Des Fleurs. The fourth section is the analysis and the interpretational decisions on Valses nobles et sentimentales as the conclusion of the research. Valses nobles et sentimentales contains eight waltzes. All of them are in the dance rhythm of 3 beats. This piece has incredibly richness in harmony. Ravel even uses church modes, syncopations, grace notes, hemiola, diminish and augmented chords, and changing of the tempo. The goal of this research is have a deeper understanding of the piece in order to have a better interpretation of the piece.
