Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺灣藝術大學 === 音樂學系 === 102 === Verne Reynolds (1926-2011), renowned as a horn performer and composer in the USA, is devoted to teaching and specializes in arranging scores. Although the quantity of works is not that large, his works reflect the transformation of modern music style. In the work, “Partita for Horn and Piano,” written in 1960, it represents the neo-classical style as well as the unique sound texture. The paper seeks to discuss his brilliant life as an entry point, in order to examine his music works. Furthermore, through the research, the paper strives to promote readers’ comprehensions as listening to Reynolds’works.
There are five chapters in this paper. The first chapter elaborates the research motive, scale, and methods. The following chapter explores from Reynolds’ lives and works to his music style, especially the neo-classical style. The third one focuses on the work, “Partita for Horn and Piano,” discusses its music form structure, analyzing materials/contents about this piece. The fourth chapter further demonstrates music analysis and performance interpretation on Partita. In addition, for the deeper understanding on Reynolds, it contains an interview with Tina Su, a horn professor in the USA and one of Reynolds’s students. The final chapter is a conclusion. The paper is in anticipation of helping readers understand Reynolds’ works.
