From ancient time till now, the stories of cities have been circulated among people. This thesis attempted at exploring the usually ignored faces of the city where the author dwelt, and aimed at reinterpreting them. Through the urban experiences, the author transformed what she had perceived into the content of her paintings, naming “dark fables,” to express the anxiety she felt in the urban life and spaces. In addition, the author proposed four viewpoints for her works: the mutant forms, the agitation of anxiety, the melancholic ambience and the hint of redemption. In terms of the content, there were two main themes: “the fluid city” and “the new gadgets of urban dwellers,” where the portraits of marginal men, men with hygienic masks and the phubbers were included. Furthermore, the author also applied the theory of Maurice Merleau-Ponty’s phenomenology of perception and Martin Heidegger’s art theory as the theoretical foundation to explore the essence of her creative works and meanings of their expression.
