It categorizes and analyzes the current state, problems and future development of signboard design in Taitung. It discusses the visual effects and methods of presentation for signboards so as to serve as a reference for the advertising industry and other design-related industries in Taitung. A survey of 1,233 signboards from the following locations was carried out: Zhong Hua Road (461 samples), Xin Sheng Road (289 samples), Da Tong Road (77 samples), Zheng Qi Road (158 samples), Han Yang Road (131 samples) and other areas (117 samples). Design forms, information content, color presentation and use of font were sorted and analyzed, studying the visual design and physical placement of existing signboards that are effective at advertising. Results from the study show that: 1.There is a rich diversity of features in the layout design of signboards. Various colors are used to present business image and are coordinated with appropriate font designs and layouts of images and text, producing visual effects that attract consumers and create an image for the business. 2.Signboards in Taitung have various forms of expression as a result of the many forms of physical placement that are chosen based on proper integration with the building and business image. Moreover, the information presented is based on the type of business as well as consumer demands so as to attract customers and communicate information to them. 3.There is a need for the improvement of signboard quality in Taitung. By enhancing the level of quality in visual design, a streetscape with good-quality design may be created so as to achieve advertising effectiveness and enhance consumer perception while also beautifying the environment and establishing a finer image for the city on the whole.
