Her publication, Tian Guan Shuan Xia, was awarded the first prize of “2006 Global Chinese New Wuxia Novels Competition” that was co-organized by China Hongxiutianxiang Literature Network and Hong Kong ChungHwa Book Company, her writing is quite similar to Jin Yong’s spirit and style; because these reasons, she is very famous in Great China area. This thesis was based on her novels published by Fantasy Foundation from 2007 to 2013, “Tian Guan Shuan Xia”, “Spirit Sword”, “Thief in the World” and “Qi Feng Yi Shi Biography”, and was through text analysis to explore the theme connotation, the characters and the plot arts.
The theme connotation of Zheng Feng’s novels was investigated from good and evil, chivalrous thinking, feeling in their mind, the difference between good and evil. Furthermore, the figures were analyzed by functions and characterization. In the function analysis, the figures were categorized by using 7 dramatis personae in the V. Propp’s Tale Theory; on the characterization, the figures were depicted by using the portraits, the actions, the conversions and psychoanalysis. In the aspect of the plot arts, this thesis analyzed the plot by its structure and design in her novels. The plot structure contains the opening, the developing main line, the climax stage and the outcome. Based on these scenarios, how she plan the plot structure and design was analyzed.
Among the theme connotation, the characters and the plot arts, Zheng Feng imitates Jin Yong’s spirit and style in many aspects; however, she reduces imitation from Jin Yong in her follow-up writing and further attempts to create her own style. Her writings skip the style of exaggeration and fantasy in the xian xia and huan xia novels; on the other hand, her novels not only maintain the traditional style of wuxia novels but also achieve mastery through a comprehensive study between the past and present novels. Thus, she is a novel writer with worth of expecting.
