Microsoft Speech Platform SDK 11 is used to provide the “text-to-speech” and “speech recognition” functions in the software. Two modules were designed for English vocabulary learning, both suitable for elementary school students, therefore, the main software users are set to elementary school English teachers. After software production, subjects are invited to a usability test followed by an interview to collect suggestions for modification reference. Two tests were executed in order to make the interface more fit to the habits and needs of average users. Users claim that the process of editing teaching material is simple and easy. When used in class, the software is more suitable for quiet, undisturbed one on one teaching, whereas noisy environment would lower teaching efficiency. Therefore, teachers suggest the best scenario is afterschool counseling in an empty classroom or self-teaching at home. The material-editing function provides the ability to adjust difficulty for different students or subjects, it is much more flexible and useful compared to learning software with fixed content.
