Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺北教育大學 === 音樂學系碩士班 === 102 === This thesis illustrates the analysis and interpretation of Joseph Haydn's Piano Sonata in A Major(Hob. XVI:46), In the process of research, thorough study was done throughout every chapter. In order to understand the musical style of Haydn, the background of his life and the forming of his music were included to reveal the character of his music. This thesis contains six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, explaining the author's intent and motivation in analyzing the music structure and performance interpretations ofJoseph Haydn'sPiano Sonata in A Major ( Hob.XVI:46),as well as the scope of this thesis and the methodology used. Chapter 2 is a study on Haydn's life and the categorization of his piano sonatas in different periods. Chapter 3 is an analysis of the sonata through music phrase structure, harmonic progression and tonality, rhythmic patterns, and melodic lines and textures. Chapter 4 describes the possible performance interpretations of the sonata; it is a collection of techniques found from music lessons, literature reviews concerning Haydn , and the author's personal performance experiences. Chapter5 is a comparative analysis of the recordings rendered byFou T'song, Ivo Pogorelich, and Walter Klien. The fundamental structure of this chapter is constructed based on the different interpretations by these three important masters and the author's personal assessment. Chapter6 is a conclusion of the research. Through this research project, I gained a deeper understanding and a desirable interpretation of Haydn's A flat major piano sonata, Hob XVI:46 and I hope this paper will serve as a useful reference for this sonata's future researchers and performers.
