The research was based on the food miles calculation by using Google Map’s mileage. The ground transportation was carried by 3.75 tons and 16 tons truck and the sea transportation was carried by 20-foot cargo boat. The total mileages are the food miles of the meal. The purpose for selection “Vegetable Menu” is to reduce CO2 emissions. During the 2 months food mileage experiment, we found that if the school lunch food chosen "vegan Day" menu, the number of meals people should be maximum so the CO2 emissions will be less.Poor weather conditions will affect the opening menu conditions. The local ingredients will affect food miles and CO2 emissions.The experiment food ingredients were chosen from Yunlin County, we found that the food miles and CO2 emissions are much higher. But some fish from Ilan County the food miles and CO2 emissions are much less than other Counties. So we suggest the food ingredients shall be selected to close to Taipei city can reduce the food miles and CO2 emissions. In this study, the method for achieving the food miles and CO2 emissions reduction is to buy local produce and arrange the seasonal agricultural in the menu, buying the food from the Counties which close to the kitchen, the not enough amount can purchase from then county.There are 15 kinds of nutritious lunch menu arrangement, decided the food miles and CO2 emissions in the 50,000-2,000,000 Km and >2,000,000Km. The location of nutritional ingredients supplier will affect the food mileage and the amount of CO2 emissions. Therefore, in order to reduce the food miles and CO2 emissions, the first priority is to select the Taiwan local food. Unless rainy or typhoon day, the imported ingredient and frozen food could be selected. In this way, the unnecessary food miles and CO2 emissions can be reduced.Different cooking method’s combination can help to reduce the food miles and CO2 emissions. Such as steaming, oil + roast, steam, blanch + mix, boil; steamed, deep fried, blanch + stir-fry, blanch + mix, boil; steamed, blanch + stir-fry + roast, blanch + stir-fry, blanch + mix, boil; steamed, blanch + stir-fry + stew, blanch + boil, blanch + mix, blanch + boil and other cooking method.Compared the food mileage in between Taiwan local food and imports food, the food miles shortest path is 103km and the longest path is 12989km. Based on the butane energy consumption and the utilities from the central kitchen, we can calculate the CO2 consumption of this meal. It was found that the number of meals in school the actual energy consumption was increased. Conclusion: In order to reduce the CO2 emissions and food miles in Taipei school for the lunch, we need to setup a kitchen and the number of meals shall be more. Otherwise, the reduction of CO2 emission and food miles will be limited. Key Word: Food mile、School lunch
