This study was performed in four cruises (September, November 2012 and June, September 2013) with eight stations across the Kuroshio Waters, eastern Taiwan. The results show that the spatial distribution of POC concentration was high at the coastal zone and decreased offshore. Temporally, the highest POC was in June 2013, then in September 2012 and 2013, and the lowest value was in November 2012. Correlation analysis showed that POC was significantly regressed with chlorophyll a, Synechococcus, and Picoeukaryotes. However, the sum of chlorophyll a, Synechococcus, and Picoeukaryotes in term of carbon unit was contributed only about one tenth of POC. This result suggests that protista and/or zooplankton, instead of phytoplankton and bacterioplankton, might be the major components of POC in the Kuroshio Waters.
