Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 應用數學系數學科教學碩士班 === 102 === This study aimed at investigating the number sense of children of foreign brides. It then sought to compare the difference between ordinary students and children of foreign brides in the subject of number sense. This researcher used a number sense questionnaire as the evaluation tool and chose 142 third grade students from 8 different coastal elementary schools in Tainan as samples for this study. The researcher first used descriptive statistics to analyze the number sense performance of 50 children of foreign brides. The research then selected 6 children from the low performance, the moderate performance, and the high performance groups for further interview. The findings are listed as follows: 1. Children of foreign brides generally perform poorly in number sense. The average percentage of correct answers is 35%. These children perform best in the area of understanding how operations affect numbers, while performing worst in the area of applying reference points. 2. The proportion of questions from high to low that the children of foreigh brides made wrong answer can be divided four categories : (1) misconception, (2) guessing answers, (3) computational errors, and (4) misunderstanding questions. 3. It is obvious that the number sense of children of foreign brides is weaker than that of ordinary third grade students in coastal elementary schools in Tainan. According to the above findings, the researcher proposed some alternatives for current course design and teaching methods as well as future research direction.
