Summary: | 碩士 === 國立臺南大學 === 教育學系課程與教學教學碩士班 === 102 === During the past 60 years from 1950 when the KMT government moved to Taiwan, Taiwan society changed not only politically but also economically, socially and culturally because of the declaration and repeal of martial law. This led a great impact on the development of Teacher Education Institution and characteristics of excellent teachers as well. This study aimed to focus on the Transformation of Taiwan Teacher Education Institution and the characteristics of excellent teachers before and after the repeal of martial law. And the approach of critical discourse analysis was employed to the study in order to contain all the different stages in the analysis process, including description analyzing stage, interpretation analyzing stage, and explanation analyzing stage.
The findings of this study could be divided into three parts. First, Taiwan Teacher Education Institution and characteristics of excellent teachers are both affected by political, economical, social and cultural factors before and after the repeal of martial law, with a declining influence from politics and a growing influence from the other three. Second, the mechanisms and organizational actors that governed Taiwan Teacher Education Institution and characteristics of excellent teachers, influenced by societal context, have become diversified. Third, as to the change on characteristics of excellent teachers, the findings are as follows. (1) The way to get along with people and deal with affairs is more emphasized than the role of a moral model in the “personality and moral integrity” aspect; (2) There has been a continual growth of emphasis on the “educational professionalism” aspect; (3) The focus on the “erudition and general capacity” aspect is moved to abstract thinking ability instead of a great amount of knowledge. (4) The “interpersonal relationship” aspect is gradually drawing attention. (5) The “virtuous essential attitude toward education” aspect is always highly stressed despite the social change. (6) Emphasized before the repeal of martial law, the “nationality and traditional culture” aspect has gained less interests.
According to the above findings of this study, some suggestions are informed. First, people should supervise the balance of the mechanisms that govern Teacher Education Institution. Then, we should bridge the gap in the different point of view on characteristics of excellent teachers between Teacher Education Institution and the social perspectives. Furthermore, we have to try our best to raise the autonomy for the development of education. Last but not the least, we should think about what characteristics of excellent teachers mean to teachers, especially in a reflective way.
