Summary:碩士 === 國立臺中教育大學 === 語文教育學系碩博士班 === 102 === This is a study of Robinson Crusoe and Life of Pi analyzed by Joseph Campbell’s the hero’s journey. It analyzed the difference and the changes between the juvenile drifting novels of 18th and the 21th century and discussed the start, drift, and regression of them. The purpose of study, literature review, methodology and structure is in the first chapter. The start is in the second chapter. It analyzed the reason why Robinson and Pi run away from home and the choice of their state of mind from the society environment and the family background. The third chapter discussed the journey difference between Robinson and Pi from the religion, stop over, and the company. The next chapter discussed the regression of their life, catholicon, narrative space and the way to end up the story. The study found that Life of Pi reflect the spirit of society. Because of the different story background, its journey is more difficult than Robinson Crusoe. In these two novels, the way to describe the two characters’ story and journey is from romantic to reality and matter to spirit.
