ABSTRACT
The primary goal of 12-year basic compulsory education system is to enhance the national basic knowledge, cultivate modern civic literacy. Art and aesthetic education are important issues of modern civic literacy, thus aesthetic literacy for the basic accomplishment of modern citizens should possess. 12-year compulsory education will soon be implemented , it is time to examine China's human qualities and study the whole syllabus and content . The perspective of study in Visual Arts on aesthetics literacy attainment status of high grander students in elementary schools of central area in Taiwan to serve as a reference of the implementation of the 12-year compulsory education. The study adopted questionnaire survey research. "The questionnaire of elementary school children's aesthetic literacy " contains four constructs: "aesthetic consciousness", "aesthetic understanding," " aesthetic exploration " and " aesthetic representation ". The validity of formal questionnaires was examed by experts, item analysis and exploratory factor analysis. The study is based on the students in public elemtary schools in Taichung City , Changhua County and Nantou County, a total of 15 schools. The participants were 625 high grade students; 588 valid questionnaires were collected . SPSS 12.0 for windows is used as major tool for descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, pearson roduct-moment correlation and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The conclusions of the study were as follows:
1. Central region elementary school slightly higher grade the overall performance of the aesthetic literacy of the students in secondary.
2. Girls on the overall aesthetic literacy in elementary grade more than boys.
3. Three city and county residence does not affect the central region elementary school high grander students aesthetic literacy.
4. Rural and urban development does not affect the elementary school high grander students aesthetic literacy.
5. School size does not affect the elementary school high grander students aesthetic literacy.
6. Strengthening aesthetic exploration ability contribute to the overall aesthetic quality of elementary grade school children improve.
