The first topic is design of a UWB MIMO antenna. Unlike the generally used large area patch antennas, this thesis uses a loop structure to coupling feed the shorted monopole. Applying the commonly used slot technique, a band notch at 5.8 GHz was added. A coupling element was employed to realize the required isolation in an access point (AP) MIMO antenna. In the entire UWB operation frequencies, the isolation was above 17.5 dB, with the best gain of the UWB antenna being 6 dB. Except the band notch frequency, the efficiency reached 70% in UWB frequency. The second topic is design of millimeter wave 60 GHz antenna and investigation of its near and far field characteristic. First, a generally known Yagi antenna designed on a Silicon-IPD. The Yagi antenna has a maximum gain 5.65 dB and efficiency of 75%. The area of antenna chip size was . Finally, we research the near and far field characteristics, including the polarization-mismatch due to different chip antenna orientations. In order to reduce the signal transmission loss in the copper interconnections between chips, over the air mini-LAN communication using two transceiver carrying A-IPDs (Antenna IPDs) was proposed. Near field antenna gain and S21 were employed in Friis transmission equation. Assume the output power of Tx is -30dBm, we can transmit the π/2-BPSK signal within 7 mm.
