Economic crisis causes the rise of unemployment and makes the working conditions worse and worse. In such threatened conditions which employees are in the unstable working environment with continued employment pressure and powerlessness, employees feel job insecurity. Employees’ attitudes, motivation and behavior are strongly affected by the work performed eight hours or even longer everyday. Job characteristics influence the workflow, work performance, and the psychology of employees. This study investigates how job characterisc, employability, and substitutability afftect job insecurity individually among different levels of employees in each industry as well as the mediating effects of employability and substitutability. 124 valid questionnaires are collected. After using Pearson correlation and regression to analyze the data, the findings of this study are as folling: 1. That three core dimensions, task significance, autonomy, and feedback of job characteristic has a significant negative relation with job insecurity. 2. That four core dimensions, skill variety, task identity, task significance, and feedback of job characteristic has a significant positive relation with employability. 3. That three core dimensions, skill variety, task identity, and task significance of job characteristic has a significant negative relation with substitutability. 4. That employability and substitutability has no great impact on job insecurity so the mediating effects of employability and substitutability can not be confirmed.
