A computer simulation code was used to simulate the movement of an ellipsoid inside a Newton’s fluids has been presented. In this simulation codes, the Lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) was used for the simulation of the fluid, the Generalized Lattice Spring Model (GLSM) was adopted for the various types of solid, and the Immersed Boundary Method was used to manage the interaction between the fluid and the solid. In addition, the Leapfrog Algorithm was adopted to calculate the physical quantities for the numerical analysis for large amount of step needed.
This research conducted a simulation of single ellipsoids settling in stationary fluid, and used different aspect ratios of the solid with different fluid properties to evaluate the movement characteristics of the solid. From the simulation results, one could expect to understand the behaviors of solid with different type in fluid and is able to extend to the multiple ellipsoids sedimentation in fluid.
