In particular, there are Onyomi-type and Kunyomi-type it will be a heavy burden for Japanese learner to memorize each of these Kango-words. Therefore, how to learn such large number of Kango-words effectively and what learning strategies are used by the learners are very important. In this study, when Taiwanese middle-level and advanced-level Japanese learners learn Kango-words(1)the impact of Kango-words learning through different conscious process. (2)the actual conditions of Kango-words learning strategies used by Taiwanese middle-level and advanced-level Japanese learners. (3)the interaction between the different conscious process and Kango-words learning strategies. These three factors are considered in this study. This is a survey of the Taiwanese middle-level and advanced-level Japanese learner in National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology of the Department of Applied Japanese. The results are as follows: (1) The result of Kango-words pronunciation, the learners who are first aware of the pronunciation got better grade than the learners who are directly aware of the meaning. (2)Overall, the learners have a tendency towards Kango-words pronunciation when they learn Kango-words. They frequently use the known Kango-words or the Chinese pronunciation to speculate about the unknown one. It’s the compensation learning strategy. (3)From each of the conscious process, the learners who are“directly aware of the meaning” often use the “look up the Kango-words in the dictionary”as their learning strategies. The learners who are“aware of the pronunciation before the meaning”often use “notice the change of Kango-words pronunciation”and“set the study plan of Kango-words” as their learning strategies.
