Our subjects were first- and second-year students at a junior high school in Yunlin County. We used questionnaires and factor analysis to examine the main factors influencing the math grades of the junior high school students. Next, we used discriminant analysis to categorize the students into a number of types for the reference of schools, parents and guardians, and students. The primary results of this study were as follows: a. The factors associated with students’ individual learning were reading strength, sports and recreation, educational backgrounds of parents and guardians, confidence, family status, technology, cooperative learning, self-expectations, and the presence of tutoring in math. b. We used these 9 factors to perform discriminant analysis. We were successful approximately 83% of the time in distinguishing which students had good math grades and which required improvement.
