The study analyzes Kanshe Version, Nanyi Version and Hanlin Version of elementary social studies textbooks from Book 1 to Book 8 in order to figure out the display of the amount and difference of traditional holidays in different versions, and then find out the connotation of the traditional holidays in those textbooks. The data analysis methods are applied in (1) the quantitative analysis of the contents of traditional holidays and (2) the qualitative analysis of the contents of traditional holidays. The quantitative analysis is based on percent frequency distribution and the qualitative analysis is based on inductive collation of the contents of the social study textbooks. The results are as follows: 1. The proportion in the texts of traditional activities of Nani version is the largest while Kang Hsuan version is the smallest. 2. When it comes to traditional activities, Nani version has the most descriptions in words while Hanlin version has the largest proportion in the pictures or graphs of the type of holiday activities. 3. Of all the versions of the textbooks, “Traditional holidays of Han people” occupies the largest proportion while “Traditional holidays of foreign countries” has the smallest proportion. 4. The contents of traditional holidays are distributed unevenly in the social studies textbooks from book 1 to book 8. 5. Pictures and graphs are sufficiently provided in all the versions of the social studies textbooks to impress the learners. The results of the research could be taken as a reference source for those who edit social studies textbooks for elementary schools. An-Li Peng 彭安麗 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 132 zh-TW
