This study aims at exploring the needs of parent education for parents of middle school students in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. This study analyzed qualitative data collected from 10 parents living in Chupei City and Baoshan Township by means of focus group interview. The findings are as follows:
1.Parents’ motivation to participate in parent education include to care for children, to obtain extrinsic rewards, to improve their life quality, to understand children from different aspects, to meet other’s expectation, to obtain special care from teachers to children, to participate in children’s life, to be interested in lecturers’ talks, to facilitate self-growth, and to follow the routine.
2.Obstruction for parents to participate in parent education includes time limits, considering it to be unnecessary, reputation, children objection, and considering it to be unsuitable.
3.Parents’ preferred parent education contents include parent-child interaction, marriage maintenance, family role, emotion management, and education policy.
4.Parents’ preferred parent education activities include lectures, family activities, parents social events, parent-teacher forum, film showing, community activities, family visits, parent-teacher contact on telephone, parent-teacher contact book, media, and school-supporting activities.
