By adopting a quantitative case study method, the current study aims to investigate these three teachers from elementary schools in Taoyuan and Hsinchu areas by means of interview and data analysis. Findings obtained in this study are as follows: I. Beliefs and Motivations A. Student-centered and fully devoted teaching B. Applying diversified teaching strategies and sufficient materials to enhance learners’ ongoing reading ability. C. Elicit learners’ positive attitude and overall abilities by virtue of reading. Teachers are the first ones who lead children into the world of reading, so are able to help students build up abilities of all aspects and positive values through reading II. Methods and Effectiveness A. Multiplying limited time for reading instruction in class as well as encouraging parent-child reading at home B. Adjusting curriculum conforming to learners’ proficiency level, creating reader-friendly environment in the classroom, and engaging learners in abundant learning activities. C. Making good use of readers, computer media and videos as teaching resources D. Adopting varying assessments to avoid learning stress E. Reading helps elevate students’ interest in reading and abilities of all aspects, improvement and changes also take place in teachers and the school. III. Dilemma and solutions A. In correspond to time constraint, always allow timely modification of the lesson design, intensify teaching in class and prepare lessons after school B. In response to parents’ disapproval, teachers win recognitions and supports through negotiation. C. Persistence is the key to strengthen learners with low language proficiency, learning pressure and lack of good reading habits. D. Exploiting all possible teaching resources like the Mini On-the-Go Library, online resources and self-made teaching kits as complements of resource inadequacy E. Idea sharing is crucial to resolve questioning and hostility from colleagues F. Continuous self-enhancement in teaching G. Positive feedback from students, parents as well as awards are great boost H.
