Summary: | 碩士 === 國立東華大學 === 電機工程學系 === 102 === The losses of electricity supply refer to the amount of electricity generated and transmitted through distribution grids to the final consumers that are not paid for by the users. There are two types of the losses: technical and non-technical. The technical losses occur naturally in power dissipation in an electric system, whereas the non-technical losses are caused by human actions. The losses have a great impact on the financial viability of the power company. According to the Taiwan Power Company, for every 1% of the loss's reduction, the company can save 60 billion TWD of fuel cost. Thus, reducing the losses of the electricity supply not only reduces the generation cost of electricity, but also reduces energy consumption, carbon emission, and helps slow down global warming.
The objective of this thesis is to discuss and analyze the main causes of non-technical electricity losses: diverting electric current, connecting electric service without authorization, tampering with electric meters, addition of a single-phase capacitor, connecting the diode, and research better methods and use innovative equipment for detecting abnormal electric usage. Effectively reducing non-technical electricity losses will enhance the operational efficiency of a power company and ensure fairness for their paying customers.
