Prior research on strategic alliances and innovation outcomes has not empirically examined the influence of complementary knowledge. Complementary knowledge reflects the low-level degree similarity of knowledge that the partners own and is conducted in pursuit of higher efficiency and productivity to enhance partner firms’ existing competitiveness. Knowledge acquisition occurs when partners develop a collaboration relationship, and has an effect on this relationship. Therefore, knowledge acquisition was considered to be the moderator. This study constructed a model of knowledge complementarity and innovation performance of high-technology industries that considers complementarity as important drivers of innovation outcomes, and tested the model using a sample from information and electronics industries in Taiwan. This study took SPSS 18.0 and SmartPLS 2.0 as the analyze tool for survey data. Data analysis includes descriptive statistics, credibility analysis, reliability analysis, and partial least squares analysis was used to examine the proposed hypotheses. The results of this study exhibits: (1) Complementary knowledge has positive influence over the degree of radical innovation, and (2) the impact of complementary knowledge on the degree of radical innovation was moderated by knowledge acquisition.
