Experiment 1 was to determine the effect of different light intensity (LI) of Red-LED on egg production, liver, ovary and eye morphology of Red-TCC hens. A total of 176 20-wk-old Red-TCC hens were assigned to four LI treatments, 10 and 10 lx (LL), 20 and 20 lx (HH), 10 and 20 lx (LH), 20 and 10 lx (HL), at 20 to 35 and 36 to 50 wk of age, respectively. Each treatment was replicated four pens, and a total of 16 pens were used. Restricted feed was provided throughout the experiment. Egg production was recorded daily. At 50 wk of age, hens were sacrificed, and the liver, ovary, eyes were taken for morphological analysis. Experiment 2 was to determine the effect of different LI of Red-LED on L2-TCC hens during the later laying period. A total of 128 57-wk-old L2-TCC hens were assign to four LI treatments, including 5, 15, 25, and 35 lx. Each treatment was replicated four pens, and a total of 16 pens were used. Feed and water were provided for ad libitum consumption through 16 wk of experimental period. Egg production was recorded daily and egg quality was measured every 4 week. In experiment 1, there were no significant differences on total eggs, hen-day egg rate, abnormal eggs (soft eggs and double yolk eggs) and broken eggs among LI treatments in Red-TCC hens. At 50 wk of age, there were no significant differences in abdominal fat pad, oviduct, liver weight, liver lipid content, ovary weight and ovarian follicle numbers among LI treatments. No significant differences were founded in eyes’ weight, iris length, iris width, anterior-posterior diameter, transverse diameter among LI treatments, except of pupil length and pupil width (P < 0.05). In experiment 2, there were no significant differences on total eggs, hen-day egg rate, abnormal egg (soft egg and double yolk egg) and broken egg among treatments in L2-TCC hens during the later laying period. No significant differences in egg quality and shell quality were found, except of Haugh unit was higher at 35 lx of LI treatment (P < 0.05). In conclusion, the Red-LED at 10 or 20 lx were not affected the egg production of Red-TCC hens, and low LI was also not affected the egg production and egg quality of L2-TCC hens during the later laying period.
