The period of Japanese rule, to solve the problem of water shortage, Taiwanese Governor General’s Office built the Tao-Yuan Canal. Space of pond and irrigation developed from large quantity private disperse system of pond and trenches to the arborescent hierarchical one. Landscape gradually changes, Taoyuan Canal strung various ponds, and it formes a waterway connecting the various ponds landscape. Since the construction of Taoyuan Canal and Shi-Men Reservoir, most irrigation ponds lost the original function. In addition, with the advent of the era of industrial and commercial, agricultural activities were no longer getting attention, and ponds began to disappear or abandoned even converted to other uses. The same way, the ponds located in the Shinwu Township face the same fate. In recent years, Shinwu Township has the ponds recycling program, it makes that ponds and life recombine, and Shinwu Township also helds cultural events associated with ponds. By Taoyuan Land And Open Air Art Festival in the end of 2013,more and more people noticed Taoyuan unique landscape ─ ponds.
