Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 史地學系研究所 === 102 === Abstract In order to solve the irrigation problem and overcome the limitations of the natural environment, ancestors of Taoyuan area developed a distinctive cultural landscape ─ ponds. For residents of Taoyuan area, the ponds have deep feelings and historical significance. As time goes by, ponds faced a transition fate. Because most ponds were dug by private in the Qing Dynasty, so mostly ponds maintain separate irrigation patterns. However, the ponds water supply mainly depend on rainwater but rainwater can‘t provide stable water supply, thus, unstable water supply often made the Taoyuan area face water shortages problem. The period of Japanese rule, to solve the problem of water shortage, Taiwanese Governor General’s Office built the Tao-Yuan Canal. Space of pond and irrigation developed from large quantity private disperse system of pond and trenches to the arborescent hierarchical one. Landscape gradually changes, Taoyuan Canal strung various ponds, and it formes a waterway connecting the various ponds landscape. Since the construction of Taoyuan Canal and Shi-Men Reservoir, most irrigation ponds lost the original function. In addition, with the advent of the era of industrial and commercial, agricultural activities were no longer getting attention, and ponds began to disappear or abandoned even converted to other uses. The same way, the ponds located in the Shinwu Township face the same fate. In recent years, Shinwu Township has the ponds recycling program, it makes that ponds and life recombine, and Shinwu Township also helds cultural events associated with ponds. By Taoyuan Land And Open Air Art Festival in the end of 2013,more and more people noticed Taoyuan unique landscape ─ ponds. Key words: Ponds , Landscape , Shinwu Township
