Summary: | 碩士 === 國立嘉義大學 === 中國文學系研究所 === 102 === Baihe Yushan Poetry Society was founded in 1953. In 1961, its chair, Lin Chun-shui, died and the society has been silent for half a century. In 2004, Qiu Rui-yin revived the society, which is an affiliation of the Dian Zai Ko Culture and Education Association. Now it is one of the few active literary societies in Baihe, Tainan. From its literary activities and representation means, it is obvious that the founding of the society aims to preserve and promote Sinology and Han Chinese culture as well as to encourage the writing of classical Chinese poetry in Taiwan. Being the first poetry society in the Baihe area, its members come from Tainan and Chiayi. Its active members sowed the seeds of poetry to help the development of regional literature, promoting literary activities in the Biahe area. Blending the traditional and modern elements, its classical poetry has become stylistic regional literature. Therefore, it is significant and meaningful in the times regarding the legacy of Sinology.
Titled “A Study of the Rhetoric and Style of Language of the Collections of Yushan Poetry Society,” this thesis probes into the lives and works of the poets and the themes of their works. Analyzing the implications of the poetry in the space and time then, it also explores the rhetoric and the language style of these poems in order to represent the conditions of regional literature and its literary values.
Chapter 1 is the introduction, including the sections of motivation, goals, definitions, scopes, research method and process, and literature review. Chapter 2 explores the regional almanac of Baihe, Tainan, Taiwan to understand its geographical environment, the changes in administration district, development of traditional literary movements and education, and the establishment and activities of the poetry society in order to depict the early development of and the literary activities in the Baihe district. Chapter 3 discusses the lives and works of the poetry and analyzes the classical poetry with the themes of the four seasons, folk festivals, daily life, social concern, social intercourse, nostalgia, lyrics, and more. Chapter 4 analyzes the poems with traditional and modern rhetoric, such as imitation, melonomy, analogy parallelism, metaphor, transformation, hyperbole, hypothesis, coupled phrases, inversion, and more to further understand the rhetorical art of the poetry. Chapter 5 studies the language style of the collections of Yushan Poetry Society through the analysis of the frequently used language that promote the poems aesthetic implications, such as color phrases, number phrases, deduction, analysis, statistics, and more. By studying the applications of these skills, it aims to summarize the style of these poems. Chapter 6 concludes the discussions in previous chapters and summarizes the findings of this thesis.
