The mechanism of this oxidation reaction was further explored and compared to the proposed ones in the literature. Previously, we obtained a six-coordinated N4S2 iron(III) complex, [PPN][Fe(PyImS)2], and its two-oxygenated derivative, [PPN][Fe(PyImS)(PyImSO2)], with ligands containing pyrrolyl, imino, and thiolate functionalities. Now, we were able to obtain the more oxidized complex, [PPN][Fe(PyImSO2)2], with structural identification. Previously, we obtained a six-coordinated N4S2 iron(III) complex, [PPN][Fe(PyImS)2], and its two-oxygenated derivative, [PPN][Fe(PyImS)(PyImSO2)], with ligands containing pyrrolyl, imino, and thiolate functionalities. Now, we were able to obtain the more oxidized complex, [PPN][Fe(PyImSO2)2], with structural identification. The possibilities of inter-conversion of these three complexes using oxidation and reduction reagents were also reported.
