The purpose of this research is to investigate the effect of stereoscopic 3D display and autonomy on gaming experience under exergame.This research is based on self-determination theory. Subjects were randomly assigned to one of four conditions, and the conditions respectively are stereoscopic 3D with autonomy on, non-stereoscopic with autonomy on, stereoscopic 3D with autonomy off, and non-stereoscopic with autonomy off. According to the results, the main effect of stereoscopic 3D display on gaming experience, namely, flow, enjoyment, satisfaction, presence, is not significant. The effect of autonomy on gaming experience is also not significant. This study speculates that the possible reason of these results is because there will be more cognitive involvement in the autonomy on condition, and this will distract the attention of the player on the visual effect of the game. Furthermore, this research finds that although the main effect of autonomy on gaming experience is not significant, the effect of autonomy on gaming experience is mediated by the need satisfaction of autonomy and the indiret effect of the need satisfaction of autonomy is significant. This research shows that whether the mode of image is stereoscopic 3D display or non-stereoscopic 2D display, the need satisfaction of autonomy play an important role between autonomy and gaming experience.
