Methods: Sixteen swimmers were recruited in this research (eight elite athletes and eight general athletes). The IMU was placed at the right forearm to measure the signals in sprint of butterfly stroke. Experimental data regarding the IMU were analysed using a computer program written in MATLAB to calculate cycle time of pull and divide the movement periods. One-way ANOVA method was conducted to examine differences between elite athletes and eight general athletes in pull time and pull time stability. The level of significance was set to α =.05. Results: The movements of butterfly stroke could be measured by IMU and push off wall , under water and double overarm of time, and the number of pull times could be distinguish via the signals. The statistics revels that elite athletes were significant shorter than general athletes in pull time and there was no significant different between them in the stability of pull time. Conclusion: In conclusion, this study demonstrated that the IMU could go into details of signals of butterfly stroke. This device could provide the swimmers’ kinematics parameters in real time conveniently.
