In this small area of land, Taiwan has mountains, rivers, canyons and the Pacific Ocean. Pursuing adventure activities in the outdoors is very popular. With adventure activities, comes the issue of accidents and possible injuries. The focus of this research is in the area of outdoor risk management. Risk and outdoors are two components of every program that starts outside the classroom. This research is important in order to decrease the amount of unnecessary accidents that occur every year in Taiwan. The research approach included interviews, observations and grounded theory principles. To better understand Taiwan’s risk management and to compare it to a western system was very beneficial. The findings from this research provided evidence that Taiwan is still in its infancy of a proper risk management program and needs to develop a stronger and more cohesive risk plan for outdoor people and companies to use. This research recommends that Taiwan pursue high quality certification programs. Certification programs are the key in elevating the standards that Taiwan needs to be safer and promote proper risk management. Without certification programs or quality training programs, meaningless accidents will continue. Li-Kang Chi Chih-Mou Hsieh 季力康 謝智謀 2014 學位論文 ; thesis 104 en_US
