Summary: | 碩士 === 國立暨南國際大學 === 社會政策與社會工作學系 === 102 === This study aimed to explore the disability experiences of Atayal living in Wulai tribe, primarily from the perspective of Atayal elderly persons with disabilities, along with the social change, cultural traits and living environment of Wulai Atayal tribe, learn about life of under this sociocultural environment in Atayal elderly persons with disabilities, and experience the journey of the heart with disabilities and life appearance to make a exploratory study. This study used qualitative research methods, through semi-structured in-depth interviews and snowball sampling, selected nine Atayal elderly persons with disabilities as interview subjects.
The study found Wulai Atayal elderly persons with disabilities becoming disabled all before age 65, their tribal disability experiences across the different stages and impact of different levels of life, including education, employment, family life, medical expenses, personal interaction, activities of daily life, and traffic problems because of medical treatment. Their experience disabilities are not only caused by physiological dysfunction, aging effects, and other factors but also by the adverse external factors in the tribe environment. For the disabled elderly, there was a lot of influence and impact in social level to the psychological level; On the other hand, these elders were also subjected to sociocultural environment changes. For the disabled elders’ own interpretation of disability, the elderly have developed a different view from their past traditional culture. Develop another set of combining traditional culture of thinking match with perception of contemporary culture, and looming affect the Atayal disabled elderly life, adaptation and arrangement after disabled.
Finally, according to the found of research process. By viewing disability life situations of Atayal disabled elderly in tribe, provide further suggestions to government agencies and tribal practices in related policy planning and welfare- services provided. To sort out the limitations of the study and suggestions for future research should be discussed.
