碩士 === 國立成功大學 === 台灣文學系 === 102 === The Narrative of Taiwan Agriculture under Globalization Author：Chia-Pei Chang Advisor：I-Ming Chien Graduate Institute of Taiwanese Literature Studies, College of Liberal Arts SUMMARY The dissertation of “The narrative of Taiwan Agriculture under Globalization” addresses the reversal of acts and its writings of Taiwan agriculture under globalization. By viewing the agriculture policies of Taiwan, especially the developments of anticipating in WTO (World Trade Organization), 2002, what people can see in agriculture is recession. People in community try to change the current situation with a positive conception and to reach sustainable development. In the thesis, through acts and works five objects of them, Ru-Men Yang, Yin-Ning Wu, Qing-Song Lai, Bao-Lian Li and the website News ＆Market, are being observed. In spite of their personalities lead to different ways to have thoughts put into practice, the core of their acts is making great efforts to achieve or obtain sustainable development in Taiwan agriculture. They try to resist the depression from the surroundings of Taiwan agriculture. There is still can be seen in their works. The characteristics of their plays describe the details of farming, represent the moments of time, highly self-disclosure, and emphasize the relationship between environment and people. Keywords：Globalization, the narrative of agriculture INTRODUCTION In 1970s, many countries had economic issues from Oil Crisis, which make the shortage of power sources and economic setbacks. After then, the emphasis of open market and free economic pilot policies, Neo-Liberalism, is been taken in economic system extensively through the world. Nevertheless, Agriculture under Globalization leads many problems in the Third World, the lack of development in economics of countries from Asia, Africa, Central and South America, vulnerable peasants are especially under attack in comparison to other occupations. Despite of a state of affliction, there are proper ways to change the situation possibly. The cases of Dr. Vandana and her “Navdanya”, fair- trade agreement, and farming system act for regional residents are possible ways to resist the hardship in development of agriculture. By means of the example from other countries, we can find our own to oppose harm to agriculture under Globalization in belief. METHODS Discourse analysis is been held in this thesis to discuss the history of Neo-liberalism and Globalization. And so does to the policies in agriculture in Taiwan. When observe the representative of this dissertation, what they do and reasons of they do are also been point out through their movements. Still characteristics of their literary work are also been discussed in this research. DISCUSSION Firstly, the motivation and purpose of this research are been displayed. And so does the range of this thesis recording to the title which demonstrates. Moreover, the background of its occurrence is being searched and analyzed. Secondly, it comes to the development of Taiwan Agriculture and works that record the society of that time. In 2002, Taiwan has officially become the member of WTO. In order to boost economic growth momentum and national competitiveness, the government is carrying out plans to set up open-marketing surrounding for trade. As for agriculture, government patched policies up in replace, through the agriculture of Taiwan was assaulted by the open marketing policies under globalization. Fortunately, the positive atmosphere of changing the situation by personal capability was developing upon the growing of civic awareness. Therefore, people with willing mind start to make remonstrance against the inappropriate policy of government. And some stand for protecting lands from ruining, still some purchase agriculture products to support sustainability in farming. In this thesis, five objectives were being discussed, including Ru-Men Yang, Yin-Ning Wu, Qing-Song Lai, Bao-Lian Li and the website News ＆Market , to observe their movement of agriculture .Yang as known for“the Rice Bomber” to draw attention to the dire straits of farmers in Taiwan, after got out of prison he held“248 Farmers’ Market” to continue showing his concern to farmers and farming, in that case there are ways for people of dealing with geoponics; Wu urged Yang to write his stories down and then she spend two years to write the course of event of Taiwan agriculture since 1950s to 20 century and she still care the development of her hometown to that of Taiwan; Li cares about the relationship between people and nature and she decides to go to Lishan for recovering lands, eventually she comes to Yilan to keep the concept going through the group of earth-friendly farming institute; Li as a farmer and organize a group to support each other in farming and susceptibility, which enhance more and more anticipants to take part in starting their own farming; and the website News ＆Market is an easier way to show concern in agriculture, there are immediate news for users to discuss with and switch themselves as a reporter, still some can purchase goods to support the producers with earth-friendly manufacture. CONCLUSION Ru-Men Yang, Yin-Ning Wu, Qing-Song Lai, Bao-Lian Li and the website News ＆Market put thoughts into practice.During the process, it has changed not only the value of the tradition of Taiwan, but also the consistency of agriculture in Taiwan. There are writings from those practicing and truly narrate the living modes and reflection from farming. Comparing to the type of writing of agriculture in early period, the distinguishing features are personally implementation cause the production of feelings, the details of farming skills and the thought of balance of sustainability and productivity, so does to nature and human being.
