But there exist many uncertain factors in the electric mechanical engineering workshop causing inventory management is difficult. The case of this study is implementation of electric mechanical engineering. The variability present during the construction process usually causes errors in material demand prediction. Material shortage which occurs must be purchased to make up for the insufficient quantity, causing budget overrun. To solve this problem, this study implements a real-time inventory system in Microsoft Excel using spreadsheets and Visual Basic for Application (VBA) modules, and these spreadsheets having the material information are shared via cloud computing service. Then, using simulation optimization to improve the material pick-up process by determining the optimal number of material pick-up rounds. According to the simulation result, if using the real-time inventory system which includes decision support function, the total cost can be reduced by approximately 11.7% and the robustness of the real-time inventory system is proved by sensitivity analysis.
