Using Taiwanese footwear industry as an example, this paper investigates the key sustainable factors of small and medium-enterprises. The research was conducted using a qualitative research method, with an intention to tight research to real business practice. Three dimensions of focus were studied in the research, including corporate organizational strategy, corporate sustainability, and managerial succession plan. A total of fifteen valid interviews were recorded, transcribed and analyzed. The companies approached were players in the footwear industry with an origin from Taiwan. Ten SMEs and five large companies of the footwear industry were contacted and interviewed. The findings suggest that organizational strategy of Analyzer is most embraced by SMEs interviewed. The companies accessed were all environmentally sustainable in the Corporate Sustainability Grid (CSG) position. However, SMEs and large companies lay different level of importance on key sustainable factors, under categories of product performance, sales power, corporate management and talent retention. SMEs focuses more on the improvement that may directly affect its products, while large firms contribute more of their attention on efficiency of management and people retention.
