Both flowcharts of constructing the NRDVS and its damage database of steel structures exposed to fire are proposed. The damage database is investigated based on recommended characteristics of steel concluded from the results of component tests after fire as well as the setups of fire damage tests. By introducing a shaker as the reference force input, the corresponding database of NRDVS can be established subjected to different temperature of steel as the result of exposure to fire. A few damage patterns of steel components illustrated by the propose NRDVS are investigated by using the commercial software SAP2000, those include a simply supported beam, the beam of a flexible frame, the column of a shear frame, and the beam and column of a flexible frame. By comparing the patterns of NRDVSs of a target steel frame and those of the simulated database, we could infer the distribution of temperature at the scene of the fire.
