When basic oxygen furnace slag and DS touches water, the f-CaO within them will become Ca(OH)2 and CaCO3 due to hydration thus cause its volume to expansion and increase the limitation of its application in engineering field. This study is consists of three parts. The first part discussed the basic pHysical properties of slag material including: particle size analysis, Atterberg limits, specific gravity and water absorptivity, dry unit weight, Mohs hardness, and pH value test. The second part is the engineering characteristics tests including: slake durability test, soundness test, Los Angeles abrasion test, laboratory compaction, and laboratory swelling test. Finally, the third part is the swelling mitigation test which follows the JIS-A5015 regulation to use the material that has a swelling ratio greater than 1.5% to perform the mitigation.
