Patented methods have come out one after another but so far there has not been one effective and economical way to improve the situation. This paper adopts the Theory of Inventive Problem Solving (TRIZ), follows the four major steps of problem definition, tool selection, problem solution and solution assessment, and uses TRIZ tools to try to come up with a new and feasible approach of reasonable cost to solve the problem of urine stains on the floor below the urinal. With the aid of TRIZ, the author has designed a modified translucent urinal back surface with the Coanda effect and aiming marks in different colors. In subsequence, the results have been compared with those of patented devices to verify the feasibility of this cross-disciplinary innovation. In the meantime, searches in the ROC Patent Bibliographic Database indicate no similar devices have been patented. Therefore, this device is original and progressive while it is also industrially applicable. Compared to existing urinals, this device is a viable approach to improve the problem of urine stains on the floor below the urinal.
