Description
Summary:碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 高階經理人碩士在職專班 === 102 === National Health Insurance in Taiwan offers a more convenient way for residents to access medical resource. However the quality of medicine used might be affected due to a number of factors including increasing medical expense, fixed premium as well as reducing drug price which has raised the concerns about the medical qualities. Therefore, in the present study the data of drug pricing in hypertension drug market between 2003 and 2012 collected by IMS were investigated to understand the change in the selling volume of generic Norvasc. Through in-depth interviews with eight represented physicians from central Taiwan, the results were as following. 1. The physician’s prescribing behavior might be affected as hospitals tend to encourage using generic Norvasc due to their higher profits when prescribed. However we also found that most of the physicians maintained using Norvasc considering its superior efficacy and safety. 2. The impact of using Norvasc or generic Norvasc on the controlled rate of hypertension. Most of the physicians claimed that Norvasc provides a better controlled rate of hypertension than using generic Norvasc. 3. Other factors affecting physician’s prescribing behavior including price, efficacy, safety, budget payment system, profit of the medicine and patient compliance. E.g. using combination dosage for patient’s convenience and improve patient compliance. 4. Suggest to transform the profit from the adjustment of drug pricing to reward for improvement of the medical care quality. Encouraging new drug development from local pharmaceutical companies. Prevention the changing of the physicians’ prescribing behavior from the hospital’s profit orientation.
