MTMD is composed of a number of TMDs and its control effectiveness is achieved by arranging these TMDs to have an appropriate frequency distribution around the controlled mode of the primary building. Therefore, it is important to know the parameters of the primary structure as well as the MTMD to ensure the tunning condition. In practical, an MTMD set may be assembled in-situ along with the construction of a building. In such a case, the dynamic properties of the MTMD device and the building cannot be tested individually. For this purpose, a methodology is developed based on the eigen-parameters of any two complex modes of the combined building-MTMD system. By means of the theoretical derivation in state-space, the non-classical damping feature of the system is characterized. It can be combined with a system identification technique as a procedure to achieve the goal on the basis of acceleration measurements of the building-MTMD system. The proposed procedure was verified numerically and experimentally.
