The simplified model of analogy column is conventionally used for processing the analysis and design of the shear wall. Herein, the shear wall is analyzed using the finite difference method incorporating with the particle swarm optimization for the buckling phenomenon and the frequency effect. Comparing with the related analogy column, it shows that the buckling load of the analogy column is greater than that of the shear wall. That is, the model of analogy column may not be conservative in use for design and analysis of the shear wall.
