Summary: | 碩士 === 國立中興大學 === 土木工程學系所 === 102 === Transformation and upgrading are crucial in keeping global competition for traditional industries. To use existing factories while changing the machinery is a possible tactics. However, the building needs to be modified to meet strict demands of the precision equipments against seismic environment under earthquakes. In this study, installation of fluid viscous dampers is applied and studied as upgrade strategy for a traditional factory in Taichung . The objective is to reduce acceleration response of each floor to meet the operational requirements of the new production lines and the labs. ETABS software is used for the linear and non-linear time series analysis to simulate the seismic responses of the structure for several types and arrangements dampers. In this case study, the building low and has short period. Results show that if nonlinear dampers are fully installed in every bay of the 1st and 2nd level, the structural may meet the requirement. The great number of dampers to be installed is too expensive and beyond economical consideration. It is therefore suggested to use machinery foundation isolation techniques as a feasible option.
