The “self-service” mentioned throughout the study refers to an unmanned library or book checking station where readers check in/out book all by themselves. This service model is an innovative service in the libraries in Taiwan. To make this service better, it is necessary to focus on its management as a topic of study. Based on the study results, suggestions are proposed for the reference of public library management and planning. The following 5 suggestions are proposed based on the study results: (1) the establishment of a dedicated task force for self-service; (2) planning by central administration as a whole; (3) instructions for the public on how to exploit the self-service; (4) development of appropriate APP for self-serviced book check-in/out system; and (5) cross-regional integration.
