This thesis reports an investigation into stress among nurses in a Category One Hospital in Vietnam. The purpose of this study was to determine the proportion of occupational stress among nurses in a Category One Hospital and explore possible causes of occupational stressors. Methods. A cross-sectional survey was distributed to nurses working in Category One Hospital in Vietnam, with a self-administered questionnaire package being the data collection technique. Data were collected on quality of work life (QWL-NISOH) and psychological distress (GHQ-12). Data were analyzed by SPSS using a descriptive and inferential statistics. Results. Of the 600 nurses working in Category One Hospital, 465 completed the survey (77.5%). The results of this study showed proportion of occupational stress was 18.2% and stress scores was 10.8±4.9. Stress was significantly associated with specialization, extra-work, nature of work, working conditions, safety work environment, respected at agency, opportunities to develop their abilities, leadership, colleagues, family, health, income and allowances, as well as job changes.
